Drew Starkey wears it, and his stylist tells us why

If you were to rank countries by the quality of their menswear, Japan would be close to the top. For years, style aficionados have looked towards the nation for Blue Blue Japan's excellent selvedge denim, Porter-Yoshida & Co's utilitarian bags, and with thanks to the IYKYK crowd's devotion to Auralee, high-end minimalism.

Now, it seems Hollywood is following suit with the endorsement of a universal wardrobe staple: the Hollywood Ranch Market Stretch Fraise T-shirt.

It first came to our attention via Drew Starkey. Walking the red carpet for the TUDUM premiere, the 31-year-old was wearing the top with an Acne Studios check suit, Cartier jewellery and watch. Upon further research, it seems he's not the only A-lister who's headed East for their basics. Matt Bomer wore it in a shoot for the Los Angeles Times, while Phil Dunster styled it in London while promoting season two of Apple TV+ show Surface.

"The Hollywood Ranch Market [Stretch Fraise] tee has a superb fit and adds a vintage feel to the shape and silhouette of the suit," says Starkey's stylist, Warren Alfie Baker, about the actor's ensemble. "That tee has such a great shape that it looks chic enough to wear without the jacket, too."

Hollywood Ranch Market is a brand by Tokyo store SEILIN & Co. that specialises in American casualwear. Stretch Fraise is their collection of t-shirts, first released in 1995 and made in Japan with an emphasis on enduring quality. Since then, they've upheld their reputation because of the durability of the elasticated cotton, ensuring a slim fit that's equally soft on the skin. And best of all, you can cop it for only £46.

For now, you'll have to shop it from Japanese e-store Hinoya, who offer more than just the short-sleeve style Starkey wears. Still, I suspect local stockists will be getting their orders in soon.
